Memories Flamenco Resort, Cayo Coco, Cuba
We spent 5 days in Cayo Coco this year. Cayo Coco is an island in the middle of Cuba. The island is only inhabited by 10 resorts and is an hour away from the main land (city called Morón) where the locals live.
As the island is mostly undeveloped the wildlife is beautiful. The beaches are pristine. There are millions of different fish right off the beach at the resort.
We spent our days between snorkelling on the beach and people watching at the pool. Every night there was a show put on by dancers at the resort. The shows were actually really good for a resort. They were creative and had professional ballet dancers.
On my birthday we took a Catamaran Excursion. We had birthday Mimosas at the buffet before we left, then caught out bus to the marina. On the bus we met lots of really nice people who were around our age that we would be going on this excursion with. We took the Catamaran out off the coast of Cayo Guillermo. There we went snorkelling.
We had two snorkelling trips, each 45 minutes long. The first snorkelling trip we snorkelled in a deep spot with lots of jelly fish, tropical fish and we saw a sting ray. On the second snorkelling trip, we saw a ship wreck, a lobster, and a nurse shark.
We then took the Catamaran to Playa Pilar (Pilar Beach). Pilar Beach is a public beach that locals can go to as well as tourists. Unlike our restart the water has no coral in it, so it looks like a postcard. The sand is white and the water is clear and shallow.
After an hour of playing in the waves, we took the Catamaran back to the marina. On the way we saw a pod of 10 wide dolphins. We followed them for 10 minutes. It was really cool to see them playing in the ocean.
Back at the resort, we found a birthday cake in our room waiting for us. We went out for a Creole Dinner and then watched the nightly show at the resort. That night we had a huge thunderstorm. There was lightening every 5 seconds. The power on the resort was taken out for about 5 hours. But nothing seemed to be destroyed so just another storm in paradise.
